Spock, the rational thinker, makes decisions based on the greater good. Who will benefit? One individual, or many?
A moment may come when you need to start preparing for a speech, presentation, meeting, or event. You won’t feel like it.
You may think there’s plenty of time later, or that this is just a weekly meeting so why bother, or that you have too many other pressing tasks to take time to prepare.
When this moment comes, it’s worth thinking about Spock’s wise words. The needs of the many—in this case, the audience, the meeting attendees, the people coming to the event—outweigh the needs of the one.
I find this helpful because it puts my focus on what really matters: the experience I can create for others. I like being of service, and when I think about, really imagine, the people on the other side of the required preparation, it makes it so much easier to devote the time and energy necessary to preparing thoroughly.
