When you ask a friend or colleague how they’re doing, how often do you get the response, “Busy!”
And when you do, what does it tell you? Do you know what they’re excited about, what their job is asking of them, what keeps them up at night? Do you know what initiatives they’ve led, team members they’ve mentored, challenges they’ve overcome?
Are you moved to ask a follow-up question? Or does the “Busy!” effectively shut down the conversation because, after all, they’re busy?
How often are you the person replying “Just busy!” ? What could you say instead?
