“Getting better.”

I love an article or a book about productivity. If there’s a hack, I’ve read about it and probably tried it out. But here’s one I’m having trouble with.

“Get 10% better.” (The idea is that you’re not trying to blow anything out of the water, you’re improving incrementally.)

But what does that mean? If I’m lifting weight, I can quantify 10%. If I’m running, I know what it means to be 5 or 10 or 15% faster. Or if I have a sales goal for the quarter or the year, I know if I’m hitting that percentage or not.

But how do you quantify what’s inherently subjective, or quality-based?

This is interesting to me because in coaching, progress isn’t linear, and it’s the result of self-reflection.

So what kind of progress is meaningful? And how can you (or should you) measure it?
